Requirements for host families and Au pair

General conditions for host families
In all cases, the following applies to the Au pair: 

• The Au pair has a valid passport
• The Au pair is not a threat to public order or national security.
• The Au pair has never stayed in the Netherlands illegally before.
• With an earlier application for a residence permit, the Au pair has not provided incorrect data or withheld relevant data.
• The Au pair is required to have a Dutch Basic Insurance (the basic health insurance) during the stay in the Netherlands.
• The au pair must be examined for tuberculosis (TB) in the Netherlands.
• The Au pair must have this examination done within 3 months of issuing the residence permit. If necessary, the Au pair must be treated against TB. Does the Au pair come from Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Suriname, Switzerland, the United States of America or from an EEA or EU country? Then TB testing is not necessary. 

Specific conditions

Specific conditions for coming to the Netherlands as an Au pair: 

• The Au pair is 18 years or older but younger than 31.
• The Au pair will be staying in the Netherlands within the framework of the exchange program of the recognized sponsor.
• The Au pair has not previously had a residence permit for exchange in the Netherlands.
• The Au pair has paid no more than € 34 in costs for the preparation for the stay in the Netherlands.
• The Au pair has not signed a contract with a host family or a (Dutch or foreign) mediation agency or Au pair agency with which he undertakes to pay money or a fine as a penalty for failure to comply with one or more provisions of this contract.
• The Au pair has not paid a sum of money as a deposit to a (Dutch or foreign) mediation agency or Au pair agency.
• The Au pair will not perform tasks for people who require more special care, which requires a specific skill.
• The Au pair is going to live at the address of the host family.
• She will register with the municipality at the address of the host family.  

Specific conditions for the host family:  

• The host family consists of 2 or more people.
• The host family has lawful residence in the Netherlands.
• The Au pair has never worked for the host family (abroad) before.
• The Au pair works a maximum of 8 hours a day and a maximum of 30 hours a week. In addition, the Au pair has at least 2 days off per week.
• Your Au pair only performs light household tasks.
• The host family is registered in the Netherlands in the municipal basic administration (GBA).
• The host family and the Au pair make a daily schedule for all 7 days of the week.
• The host family and the Au pair have signed this schedule.
• The daily schedule must contain at least:

– how many hours of light housework the Au pair will do,
 – which 2 days a week the Au pair is free and who is the Au pair’s alternative to doing the light housework.

• The host family must have sufficient income.
